All in hopes to contain and reduce Ebola infections, health authorities have been setting up isolation centres in different locations where nurses and doctors are checking people’s temperatures in protective clothing.
Even outside the dance club, Ibiza, to keep the outbreak under control, they have placed a hand washing centre for guest to cleanse their hands before entering.
And just outside the club there is a monitor playing an Ebola warning message to warn (picture 2).
The epidemic doesn’t stop some from going to dance. Such as Emmanuela and Kitumaini, as seen in the picture, as they forget even the dangerous outbreak and dance the night away.
It's not dance that unites us, she says. It's love.
Rumba, she says, is good, even through war, through Ebola. Rumba is still there, and Congolese keep living.

Rose, 17, poses for photos in a Child Transit Centre in #Yambio, South Sudan. Rose was abducted from her husband's home by an armed group and held for three months. She was repeatedly beaten and was released when she became too ill to serve the group. She does not know if her husband will allow her to return home due to the violence that she suffered at the camp. There are still an estimated 19000 child soldiers still in armed groups in South Sudan.

If you ever wondered how or why the Ebola did not spread in Nigeria like most other African countries, it's because of this #shero right here.

There's a movie out on YouTube since 2016 telling the world how she saved our beloved country, it's called 93 Days! It stars Bimbo Akintola, Danny Glover and a host of others.

I'm just amazed that I'm just hearing about the beautiful soul that lost her life saving her country.

#Repost from @boymdea with @regram.app ... Ameyo Adadevoh (born Ameyo Stella Shade Adadevoh; 27 October 1956 – 19 August 2014) was a Nigerian physician.
She is credited with having curbed a wider spread of the Ebola virus in Nigeria by placing the patient zero, Patrick Sawyer, in quarantine despite pressures from the Liberian government. When threatened by Liberian officials who wanted the patient to be discharged to attend a conference, she resisted the pressure and said, “for the greater public good” she would not release him. She is known for preventing the Nigerian index case from leaving the hospital at the time of diagnosis, thereby playing a key role in curbing the spread of the virus in Nigeria. On 4 August 2014, it was confirmed that she had tested positive for Ebola virus disease and was being treated. Adadevoh died in the afternoon of 19 August 2014. She was survived by her husband Afolabi and son Bankole among other relatives.

Doctors who are in charge of the Ebola case going on in Congo have noted two treatments, among the four potential treatments, that have been performing remarkably well.
The experimental drugs will be made available in the centres treating the disease.
Despite health centres being put up in hopes to control the disease, it is only now that effective treatments have been identified.
The two treatments that proved more effective than the other two are monoclonal antibodies. They assist the immune system in fighting off the illness.
The findings after evaluating the 4 drugs is that those who took the 2 ineffective ones had a mortality rate of 50% but the other 2 had a mortality rate of only 30%.
Doctors confirmed that results are better when treatment is adopted early.
Studies will continue for these drugs but they are being released to the public of DRC who come in for Ebola treatment.
Michael Ryan who runs the World Health Emergencies Programme says The second and very important consequence is that those patients spend longer amongst their family and friends and potentially expose other people in the community. So getting people into care more quickly is absolutely vital.
We are still seeing too many people staying away from Ebola treatment units, too many people not coming to hospital, or not being found in time to benefit from these therapies, he says.

Picture shows a miner in Eastern DRC

Fr. Willy Milayi is a missionary who lives in Congo.

He rescues children who ran from the coltan mines and provides for them a place to stay and educational services.

The workers who practice at the coltan mines always work through hard and unsafe conditions. There are a lot of children who get exploited and used to mine for minerals. “The exploitation of these mines is in the hands of the guerrillas.” Says Fr. Malayi at an interview with Diocese of Malaga. “Our cell phones are stained with the blood of the walking dead children.” He adds

This is in reference to the essential mineral, that is mined, used to make our smart phones etc.

He works with the children who escaped the mines so that they at least have some shelter. He finds them on the streets of Kinshasa where approx. 20000 children are homeless on the streets.

They have started an educational center where they can “learn a trade that ensures them a future away from the mines and never return to the streets.” “We can’t solve all the problems but we thank God that for every one of the children we can rescue. It’s a true miracle that is made possible thanks to the people of goodwill.” He explains

The six-day Hajj pilgrimage is obligatory once in a lifetime for all Muslims with the means to afford it but Saudi Arabia banned travellers coming from Congo to enter for the pilgrimage. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs had announced this on Wednesday last week after the World Health Organization (WHO) had announced the Ebola break out to be of a global concern.

All visa applications from the Congo are now suspended. The granting of arrivals visas for people entering from DRC has been stopped, to conserve the well-being of pilgrims, the Saudi ministry's note said.

According to a poll that was conducted, about 3% of Congo’s population is Muslim.

This decision was made despite the WHO pleading with African governments to not panic and not to place restrictions on trade and travel.

Congo’s Ebola epidemic is vastly spreading as a second patient in Goma has died and a third case of the disease is confirmed in Goma, Congo’s largest populated city. 15 people have been isolated in the once unaffected city.

New figures confirm that 1803 lives have been lost by the outbreak. “A patient who was confirmed with Ebola in Goma has died. Every measure has been taken to block the chain of transmission,” Muyembe told AFP. “Medical staff and those who had contact with the patient, and those who had contact with them, have been prioritised,” he told AFP. They have been prioritised to get the vaccination.

The second Goma patient, who lost his battle to the illness, was a father of 10. His 1 year old daughter is the third confirmed case. “The girl had already been showing signs of the disease,” the official told AFP.

North Kivu’s capital Goma is a lakeside city of more than two million people that has an airport with flights to the capital Kinshasa, Uganda’s Entebbe and Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, as well as a port that links to Bukavu and South Kivu province.

There is a fear of outbreaks into major cities by health experts.

Health officials said that the father of 10 arrived for treatment “11 days after falling ill”. “His was really a hopeless case, because the illness was already at an advanced stage and he died overnight Tuesday.” The public are urged to respond quickly to any symptoms and to “not hide suspect cases”. #congo #congonews #congolese #congoleseblogger #banacongo #rdcongo #rdc #ebolavirus #ebola #congolesehospitality #bemba #jeanpierrebemba #felixtshisekedi #tshisekedi #congopresident #congo #banacongo #banacongo🇨🇩 #congolese #congonews #newscongo #kabila #josephkabila

“My mother had told me: ‘My son, you must study. If you have your diploma, you will succeed in life. Even if your parents are gone, you still have your life to live,’” he said.
21 year old Claude Mabowa Sasi lost his family to Ebola. He too had contracted the disease but he was determined to go through his exams.
He already gotten the vaccine against Ebola so he brushed off his symptoms and thought they were just side effects of the vaccine. After being told that he has the infection, he was questioning the nurses about still doing his exams.
His exam papers were given to him without physical contact and the oral part of the exam was done through a window. “It was difficult for me to hear them well through the glass, so they had to repeat themselves several times before I could understand the question,” he said.
The AMLA (Alliance for International Medical Action) were inspired by his desire to take his exams despite losing his mother, sister and brother to the disease. They found a school official who was willing to help him take his exams. After finishing his exam, he held the papers one by one. Pictures were taken of them for correction after being sent to the officials.
“I have not lost everything, and I am confident that I will succeed and honor my mother’s memory,” he said. “If she were still here, I think she’d be proud of me.” He is awaiting his results in isolation at the clinic where he will be released only when he Is cleared from the disease. He hopes to study political science at the University of Kisangani.

Oly Ilunga Kalenga was the health minister for the Congo. He has recently resigned from his position after the president had decided to take over the Ebola epidemic.
He recently posted a tweet on Twitter outlining his resignation and why exactly he has done so. Following the decision of the president to manage the Ebola epidemic himself, I have handed in my resignation as minister of health on Monday. It was my honour to put my expertise to work for our nation during these 2 very important years of our history. He mentioned that As in any war, because that is what this is, there cannot be several centres of decision-making for risk of creating confusion, he added.
He expressed his negative opinion on the outside pressure applied to introduce a second Ebola vaccine. It has been manufactured by Johnson & Johnson in the US but there has been controversies surrounding it. This is because of the distrust of the nation against an unknown vaccination. He said that It would be fanciful to think that the new vaccine proposed by actors, who have shown an obvious lack of ethics by voluntarily hiding important information from medical authorities, could have a significant impact on the control of the current outbreak, he said.
This is in response to WHO (World Health Organisation) they have recently called for a global declaration of the epidemic. Also, the doctors without boarders are in favour of a new vaccine being introduced and that adds to the pressure being applied. WHO has sounded the global alarm. Now it is up to the world to act, he added.

Ebola outbreak has now been named as a ‘public health emergency of international concern' by the WHO (World Health Organisation). It had reached a level of crisis that has only been seen 5 times before. “It is time for the world to take notice,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a news conference in Geneva on Wednesday
“The reality check is that a year into the epidemic, it's still not under control, and we are not where we should be,” said Joanne Liu, president of Doctors Without Borders. “We cannot keep doing the same thing and expect different results.”
It is the lack of finding and the conflict in eastern Congo that has caused for the outbreak to be difficult to contain.
In the previous outbreak, the WHO Organisation was criticized for not responding quickly and raising an emergency.
This time things are being done differently.

He was being transported to a clinic in Butembo from Goma to receive treatment when he died.
Only 60 of the people he had come in contact with have been vaccinated against it. “This Ebola epidemic has now reached close to Rwanda. There is a need to be more vigilant and to avoid unnecessary visits to Goma,” says Diane Gashumba, the health minister
While on a visit to the eastern DRC last week, Rory Stewart, the UK’s international development secretary, explained that “The year-long Ebola outbreak was on the edge of spiralling out of control and the World Health Organization should declare it an international emergency.” #congo #congonews #congolese #congoleseblogger #banacongo #rdcongo #rdc #ebolavirus #ebola #congolesehospitality #bemba #jeanpierrebemba #felixtshisekedi #tshisekedi #congopresident #congo #banacongo #banacongo🇨🇩 #congolese #congonews #newscongo #kabila #josephkabila

Bosco Ntaganda has been found guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity. He has been nicknamed “Terminator” and his loyal rebel members have been said to commit some unruly crimes including smashing little children’s heads and disembowelling little babies, said the judges. They have also been said to be involved in rape, sexual slavery, murders and child soldier recruitment.
They tend to target people who are perceived to not be part of the Hema region ethnic group. This links in with the Ituri conflict that has been reignited this year. He was a key leader in the rebel group who gave people orders to target and kill civilians said Judge Robert Fremr in the ruling.
In one of their attacks, 49 people (including women, men and children) were found dead in the field behind a village. They were assaulted using “sticks and batons as well as knives and machetes”. He became a member of the M23 rebel group after abandoning his position in the Congolese national army along with hundreds of other soldiers. He was in charge of the soldiers who carried out a massacre of 150 people in Kiwanji in 2008. This was before he joined the Congolese national army and left his position a couple of years after.
He is among the four, including Jean-Pierre Bemba, who have been found guilty by the ICC (International Criminal Court) since it has been created. He is also the first to be convicted by the ICC of sexual slavery.
In 2013 he surrendered in the DRC at the US embassy but it is said that it was just an act of self-preservation after losing his power in his rebel group. His lawyers claim he was a victim of being a child soldier at childhood but the judge disregarded this.
His trial began on 3rd of September 2015. He pleaded not guilty to the 18 charges he was accused of. The prosecution was to include 80 witnesses that include direct victims.
This month he was convicted of all charges and sentenced to 14 years.

Update on the violence that occurred on the 30th of June.
There were protests going on. Protestors held a march of opposition in the city of Goma. It was organised and held by the Lamuka (“wake up”) coalition, which supported Martin Fayulu in the December 2018 elections as a call for peaceful protests
The march had been warned against by the authorities but the protestors still went ahead with it.
The President maintained that the armed forces were only present to ensure peace in the protest and to make sure everything goes smoothly. This announcement was aired on tv, France 24.
Unfortunately, this didn’t live up to be true because in the midst of everything, a person was killed by gun shot. Details on the deceased are that he was a 26 year old man called Paluku Kamal. He was shot by the police when things got hectic and violent.
“I saw a young man hit by a bullet,” a protester said. “He fell, and then the police came to pick him up.”
It is said that they took him to the hospital and left him there even thought that hospital cannot treat injured people. Due to that, he was transferred to a hospital that could actually help him.
“The bullet had reached his pelvis and hit his stomach,” a source at the hospital told Human Rights Watch. He died on the 1st of July.
Chaos increased when he got shot. People started to vandalise shops and a bus that was on site, was burnt. The police officer who shot him was attacked and wounded. The police spokesman said that they are investigating to “find out who fired the shot and on whose orders.” He said that the “police officer who fired the shot must be arrested because it is formally prohibited for a police officer to use a lethal weapon during the demonstrations.” Picture shows.
